JAMB Registrar breaks down in tears, admits error in UTME results, over 379,000 candidates to resit exam

There’s serious tension o! JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has openly admitted that technical errors affected the performance of many candidates in the 2025 UTME. In a press briefing held in Abuja, the Registrar even shed tears as he took full responsibility for the glitch that disrupted exams in Lagos and the South-East.

According to him, a service provider failed to update the servers correctly after a system patch, and sadly, the error was discovered after results had already been released.

Now, 379,997 candidates will have to rewrite their exams. This includes:

• 206,610 candidates from 65 centres in Lagos
• 173,387 candidates from 92 centres in the South-East

Affected students will start getting text messages and emails from JAMB beginning Thursday with fresh exam slip details. The new exam is set to start Friday, May 16, 2025. JAMB also confirmed they’ve worked with WAEC to avoid any timetable clash.

While some people praised JAMB for being transparent, many Nigerians are still worried, especially since over 70% of UTME candidates reportedly scored below 200. Serious questions are now being asked about the state of education and exam systems in Nigeria.

Let’s just hope things get better.
